Strathmore United Church

Half-Time Child and Youth Minister

The Strathmore United Church community is experiencing a time of transition, challenge and opportunity as we seek a replacement for our retiring minister, and a half-time minister for the newly-created Child and Youth Minister position.

Strathmore is a rapidly growing community of 11,000 people, located on the Trans Canada Highway, 30 minutes east of Calgary, and a short drive to the Rocky Mountains. Although the growth of the community has been significant over recent years, the Strathmore United Church members appreciate the strong sense of community which exists, and identify as areas of strength: the friendliness of the people; the focus on meaningful worship, caring and prayerful fellowship; the openness of the church community; community outreach and caring for the extended community; and the focus on pastoral care.

We are seeking a full-time minister who will provide leadership in building a vibrant Christian community so that folks of all ages and stages feel that they belong and have a role to play in the life and work of the congregation.

The priority of the Search Committee is on filling the full-time position. Consideration will be given to the possibility of a team applying for the two positions, however, if a suitable arrangement is not possible, the committee will fill the full-time position and involve the minister in a continued search for a Child and Youth minister.

The role of the Child and Youth minister involves coordinating the church school and youth programs. Desirable qualities and skills for the position include:

background in working with young people;

a concern and interest in helping children and youth discover and grow towards a meaningful, purposeful life and faith;

the ability to team with the staff and congregation;

strong organizational skills;

musical interests; and

an ability to live out his/her theology and spirituality and to inspire children and youth.
